Sierra Club Great Lakes Training

Saturday, May 17 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm (lunch provided)
UW – Green Bay, University Union Heritage Room

Deadline to RSVP for the training is Friday, May 2, 2008.

The time is now to protect our Great Lakes! The Great Lakes hold one fifth of the world's fresh surface water and provide drinking water to over 42 million people. Yet each day, our Lakes are damaged economically and ecologically by untreated sewage, industrial pollutants, and invasive species. Unless we invest in a solution today, the price we pay tomorrow will be much higher and future generations may never experience the Lakes as we know them. Fortunately there is a solution – you!!!

Help Sierra Club protect the Great Lakes by learning how to effectively communicate Great Lakes concerns to all Wisconsinites! In mid-May, Sierra Club will host a Great Lakes Training that will provide you with the tools you need to be successful in protecting our Great Lakes.

At the Great Lakes Training, you learn how to:

  • Talk to your neighbors and friends about specific Great Lakes concerns
  • Write letters to the editor of your local newspaper
  • Pitch stories to reporters and editorial boards
  • Encourage your city leadership to protect the Great Lakes
  • Make presentations to faith groups, community service organizations, angling groups, knitting circles, etc.
  • Host a house party (a fun yet educational approach to talking to
    your friends)

Please contact Ashley Brenke at abrenke@gmail.com or at 608-257-4994 to RVSP for this training! Deadline to RSVP for the training is Friday, May 2, 2008.

Annual Awards Dinner
Every year the John Muir Chapter has a dinner to honor outstanding activists and volunteers in our area. The past few years, we have combined that event with our Autumn Assembly. See more details on our Awards and the Nomination Process.

Autumn Assembly
Autumn Assembly is our annual fall "all-chapter" meeting. The name emphasizes that this is a gathering for ALL Sierra Club members and friends, not just members with leadership positions. We encourage all Wisconsin John Muir Chapter members, new and old alike, to attend. Keep an eye here for details on Autumn Assembly 2008, to be held in October near Wisconsin Dells and hosted by the Four Lakes Group.

Chapter Executive Committee Meetings
The John Muir Chapter Executive Committee meets six times per year. Contact the Chapter office for a schedule.

Meetings are held at 10:00 a.m. in Baraboo, Wisconsin at either the First United Methodist Church, 615 Broadway (on the Square) or . For full details on meeting itinerary and to verify the location and time, please contact Chapter Chair Jim Steffens or the Chapter office.
