Please write to Governor McCallum and DNR
Director Bazzell protesting the plans to dispose of this unique public
asset. Environmental groups are insisting that a formal hearing record
be kept open until late July, and that all resolutions, statements and
letters submitted by mail or email be included in that record. Addresses are: Governor Scott McCallum, 115E State Capitol, Madison, WI 53702. Darrell Bazzell, Director, Wisconsin DNR, PO Box 7921, Madison, WI 53707. Also write Curt Wilson, Park Manager, DNR Green Bay Office, P.O. Box 7921, Green Bay, WI 53707 |

Copies sent to: The Fox Valley Sierra Group extends from Marinette and Washington Island in the north to Fond du Lac, and from Two Rivers west to Waupaca. Our current membership is 1457. We have been watching and discussing the Door County Spikehorn Beach property debate for several months. This is a pristine piece of State owned real estate that is irreplaceable. While it is small, it is located next to the Bailey's Harbor Boreal Forest and Wetlands State Natural Area, which should allow for easy supervision and management. The Executive Committee has come to 100% agreement that the State of Wisconsin should not trade or sell any portion of this property. We favor Option 2 as being considered by the DNR: The State retains ownership of the 11 acre parcel and the house and the associated 5 acre lot. The house would be sold and removed, and the 5 acres on which it sits would be restored to natural conditions, and included as part of the State Natural Area. The project boundary would be modified to include the entire 16 acres parcel and all the acreage would remain undeveloped. Thanks for considering our input. |
