WI 8TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT RACE
After this year, Mark Green is no longer going to be our Congressman.
Environmentalists can be grateful for that. The race to take his seat
is going to be very important and will garner national political
attention. It is very important to Sierrans because it is an
opportunity for environmentalists to help elect a Congressman we can
finally be proud of. This fall, the Sierra Club will be very active in
this campaign. So far, candidates JamieWall, Steve Kagen, and Nancy
Nusbaum have come to speak to our members at our monthly meetings. All
candidates are welcome. To help you decide who should get your vote in
the September primary, I am posting links to all of the current
candidates' websites here, listed in order by the amount of positive
information about conservation issues on their website. We all know
about John Gard's disgraceful anti-environmental record. McCormick's
last LCV rating was a dismal 20% and she has voted pro-conservation
just one time during the current session.

THE HUFFINGTON POST
At our January meeting, Neil Koeneman and Jaci Mueller
spoke to our group about their experiences at Sierra Summit 2005, in
San Francisco. One of the main speakers that impressed them the most
was Ariana Huffington. Neil has become a regular reader of Huffington's
news/blog website. I would also recommend THE HUFFINGTON POST.

PENNY BERNARD SCHABER RECIEVES OFFICIAL SIERRA CLUB
ENDORSEMENT
Penny Bernard Schaber has recieved official Sierra Club endorsement.
Penny is running for Wisconsin's 57th Assembly District. Penny is a
longtime environmental advocate and is past Chairperson of Wisconsin's
Sierra Club. Her opponent will probably be Steve Wieckert, the
Republican who currently holds the seat. In the last legislative
session Wieckert scored a dismal 18% from the Wisconsin League
of Conservation voters. For those of you who live near Appleton,
she is going to need your help! To contribute some money or time to the
campaign you can contact Penny at 815 East Washington St., Appleton, WI
54911, 920-739-9001, penny@pbsforassembly.com.
A campaign website will be up soon!
