Canoe/
Kayak the Oconomowoc River – Aug. 17
Bring
your canoe or kayak and join Cheri & Tom Briscoe for an easy
afternoon paddle on the Oconomowoc River north of the Town of Merton
to Loew’s Lake. The put-in is located near the intersection of County
Highway Q and County Highways K & E.
Learn
about some of the history of this area and see the value of preserving
wetlands and riparian areas as we explore this glacially created
river and lake. We may see some sandhill cranes, great blue herons,
turtles and other species as we take a casual 3 hour cruise up and
down the river. We’ll stop off at a local place for some grub afterwards.

If you
have an extra seat or are looking for a partner to share your canoe
with, let us know in case someone without a canoe wants to join us.
Children are welcome. Reservations required. Call 414-390-0159 or
email cherib@wi.rr.com. No raindate if cancelled due to weather.

Boundary Waters / Quetico Canoe Trips*
Join
other Sierra Club members from Wisconsin on a special adventure into
a timeless and pristine wilderness called Quetico. For eight days
and seven nights, experience the life and land of French voyageurs,
Ojibway Indians and British trappers in Ontario’s Quetico Provincial
Park, just north of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. You’ll
be able to explore ancient pathways and waterways with eight other
modern-day voyageurs, by viewing wildlife and historic rock art with
opportunities to fish in pristine, drinkable lakes, far removed from
the noise and distractions of modern life. Four adventures are
planned this year. For more information see, Quetico
Outings
Looking
for a Few Good Sierrans to Lead Group Outings
We are looking for a few good people
who have a favorite trail that they would like to lead a group hike
or bike ride on. It doesn’t take a lot of effort. You
pick the location, write a brief description of your plans, give
a contact number and write your date and time on the calendar. Then
contact our outings chair Michael Sebzda at 262-784-8883 or sebzda@msn.com and
he will help you with other details you might want to know and to
get it published in our newsletter. You are even welcome
to lead a hike on a trail that you enjoyed with another leader a
while back. Good trails are always worth a rerun.
Sierra Club Outings are based on volunteer leaders. Without people
like you, outings won't happen as often and some people might not feel
comfortable in exploring and enjoying the great outdoors. Getting
people into the outdoors is part of our core mission. So, come
on, give it a try. It’s also a great way to meet new people and
training is available.
Sierra
Club Outings - LIABILITY WAIVER AND CARPOOLING
In
order to participate on one of the Sierra Club’s outings,
you will need to sign a liability waiver. If
you would like to read a copy of the waiver prior to the outing,
please call 414 977-5630 or see http://www.sierraclub.org/outings/chapter/forms/.
In the interest of facilitating the logistics of some outings,
it is customary that the participants make carpooling arrangements. The
Sierra Club does not have insurance for carpooling arrangements and
assumes no liability for them. Carpooling, ride sharing or
anything similar is strictly a private arrangement among the participants.
Participants
assume the risks associated with this travel.
