The Little Wolf
Water Levels
The general rule of thumb is that when the Embarrass
River gage at Embarrass is reading 500 cfs, there is enought water to
run the Little Wolf.

Trip Report
23 March 2003
Cty Hwy P (Norske) to Cty J
submitted by Rich Krieg
The reading on the Embarrass was 598 cfs (plenty of water). From P to J,
about seven river miles, it was slow going and took more than 3 hours. There
was very little whitewater and much deadfall to saw through or portage. From
Wolf River Road to J it was a lot fun as usual - stretches of class II rapids
- and took just thirty minutes. There was some ice along the edges of the
river at some points but the river was mostly wide open. At one spot we did
have to "chop" open a short channel through the ice. From J to Big Falls,
the river was still filled with ice and we did not even attempt to run that
stretch. It felt great to be paddling again. We had very nice weather: warm
temps and sunshine. There was a downed tree that should be AVOIDED in the
middle of the long class II rapids before the J landing.
Quote of the trip: "I'm not gonna' portage, I'll just wait for Phil to get
done sawing." (Lynn)
