Southeast Gateway Group Committees

Our committees are always in need of more volunteers who can donate a few hours of their time each month. If you would like to join one of our committees, please Contact Us and let us know! Here is a list of our committees and a brief description of what they do:

Executive Committee: The Executive Committee (ExCom) is responsible for the management of the affairs and activities of the Group. Seven members are elected for two-year terms. The ExCom meets of the second Thursday of the month, usually August through June.  Currently we meet in Tallent Hall of UW-Parkside at 6:30; members are always welcome. Check the calendar for more information. Agenda items may be suggested to any member. Please visit the Contact Us page if you would like to email anyone on the Executive Committee.

Conservation Committee: The Conservation Committee (ConsCom) strives to lead the Group's activites regarding all conservation activities.  This year we have prioritized: Climate Change and Energy Efficiency; Alien, Invasive Species; Great Lakes Issues; and Special Events Recycling. The Conservation Committee meets the first Thursday of most months. Check the calendar for more information.

Environmental Education: The Environmental Education Committee is working on producing and publishing a Family Guide to the Oudoors in Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth Counties .  This booklet will include information on trails, parks, nature centers and other locations which will provide opportunities for environmental education for families.  The intent is to distribute the booklet to area schools as well as having a web-based component.  Anyone interested in working on this project should contact Barry Thomas at bthomas6@wi.rr.com.

Fund Raising: The Fundraising Committee finds ways to enable the Southeast Gateway Group to continue our projects whose costs are not reimbursable from the Sierra Club Foundation .  Our current fundraising includes sales of Sierra Club calendars, our annual cranberry sale, and sales, delivery and installation of rain barrels .

Membership: The membership committees job is to promote the benefits of joining SEGG.  Members of this committee correspond with new members about upcoming events and act as a welcoming commitee at the meetings.

Outings: description will be added soon

Political: The political committee makes recommendations to the executive committee regarding the endorsement of candidates for local offices.  The local political committee may also have input into the chapter's endorsement of candidates for state offices.  On occasion the committee may become involved in other political activities.
